Transit & Trucks
HVAC electrification: the fastest and cheapest way to cut emissions.

The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system on public transit buses can consume more energy than driving the bus. Installing a battery system to power the HVAC can cut emissions just as much as electrifying the drivetrain. We retrofit a lithium battery system into in-service diesel buses to electrify the HVAC system, making this the quickest, most cost-effective way to dramatically reduce emissions.

Microgreen can provide electrification for cabin HVAC or refrigeration systems in transport trucks. Electrification can be provided for a range of other loads as well: emergency lights; lift gates; waste collection mechanisms; and many others.

Best Return on Investment

  • HVAC consumes just as much fuel as the propulsion system.
    • 30% - 80% of total transit vehicle energy, depending on outside temperature.
  • Usually powered by engine via an alternator, or a dedicated diesel generator.
  • Opportunity to significantly reduce emissions (~50%) on diesel or hybrid buses.
  • Better ROI vs electrifying propulsion:
    • Same savings on fuel and emissions
    • Lower capital cost

Easy Way to Reduce Emissions

  • Simpler to electrify HVAC:
    • Easy retrofit to in-service diesel buses./li>
    • Less regulatory complexity
    • Can be implemented in 4 months
